Avocados are simply all around us! These green little fruits are one of the most common ingredients of various meals and desserts these days.
However, despite its mild aroma and delicious taste, this fruit has become this popular due to its high nutritional value as well, as it contains high fiber content, heart-healthy fats, vitamin E, C, K, B5, B6, and potassium.
However, as usually, the more popular this fruit becomes, the higher its price on the market is. Thus, grocery stores try to profit as much as possible, so the price of the avocado has been gone up by over 25%.
Fortunately, there is an easy and simple way to grow a small avocado tree at home.
This is how to grow your own organic avocado tree from a seed:
-You should clean a seed well, and make sure you know which end is the bottom, and which is its end. Next, you should stick 4 toothpicks into it, at equal distances apart about halfway down.
Then, place the seed in a glass of water, and the toothpicks will allow it to soak an inch of water.
Place the seed on a warm place with a direct sunlight. Wait for 2-6 weeks, until the stem has grown 6 inches. Then, cut back to 3 inches, and wait once more for the stem to reach the previous length, and for more leaves to grow.
You should find a large pot with a diameter of 10 inches, with a hole in the bottom, for drainage, You should fill it in with a nutrient-tich soil. Leave a hole in the top for the seed, and place it there. It should not be planted too deep, but a half of it should remain above the soil.
Keep the pot in a sunny place, and water it often and generously. It should not be saturated, but keep it moist. In the case of a lack of water, the leaves will become dry and brown. In this case, you should put the pot in the sink, turn the tap on for the water to run through the soil. Drain the extra water before you take the plant out of the sink.
In contrast, if you are over watering your tree, its leaves will become droopy and yellow. In this case, you should not water it for a few days, and make sure you reduce the amount of water you use in the future.
To flourish, the avocado tree needs constant care and maintenance. In some cases, a few years are needed for it to begin to bear fruits. However, when it does, you will enjoy its delicious and incredibly healthy fruits!
