Pizza Worker Finds Out Order Is For Veteran, Puts Something ‘Extra’ In Box
By Dreamer

Justin Lane recently returned home to Texas after fighting in Afghanistan. He was honorably discharged after losing both legs to a 200-pound IED that ripped through the truck he was riding in. Hoping to relax and recover in comfort, the veteran ordered a pizza for delivery from Domino’s, but he found something “extra” inside the box after the shop found out he was at war.

Justin Lane with the surprising order he received from a Texas Domino’s
In a social media post, Lane said that his simple order for a pizza turned into a question and answer session with the employee about who he was and where he had just come from. It all began as soon as he let her know that his order would need to be delivered to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. This immediately let her know that he’s a soldier, which she had a strong opinion about.
“The lady was like, ‘Where are we delivering it to?’ and I told her BAMC hospital,” Lane told KENS. “She was like, ‘You’re in the hospital? Why are you in the hospital?'” Her unusual curiosity struck the 27-year-old as “funny,” but he politely answered her questions anyway. Lane said that the worker seemed “shocked” when he told her about his legs, but he left it at that.
The call came to an end, and the veteran waited for his order arrive, not expecting anything to come of the chatty employee taking such an interest in him. However, after she hung up the call, she began telling other workers about the customer. Everyone in that Fort Sam Houston Domino’s was touched by Lane’s brave story, hearing how he sacrificed limbs to serve his country and didn’t expect anything special for it.
The pizza employees all pitched in to pay for his order in full, as the least they could do to thank him for what he did for their freedom. Covering the bill didn’t seem like enough, so they took their thoughtfulness a step further, creating a handwritten card for him and adding a free dessert to his order.

Lane was floored when the delivery came to his hospital room. “Such a cool BLESSING,” he wrote in the post. “THANK YOU.”
The card they made for him said, “Dear Lane, thank you for your service. Here is a small gift to show our appreciation. Get well soon!!!! Team Domino’s, Fort Sam Houston,” and included a drawing of a slice of pizza.
The projectile that took both of Lane’s legs also snapped his pelvis in half, dislocated his spine, knocked out four front teeth, and destroyed everything in his torso except for his heart and left lung. Even though it destroyed much of his body and terrorists did their best to try to take his life, they couldn’t kill his character or positive attitude.
As impressive as this soldier is, so are the civilians who see his sacrifice for what it is and appreciate what brave men and women like Lane do for our country. It doesn’t take much to say “thank you,” but it means a lot to a man who lost his legs to hear it.
