A Frantic Mother Jumps In Lake, Dies As People See What’s Right Above Her Head

Family members of a Utah woman are in mourning today after she drowned while swimming in a local lake. Unfortunately, the fateful tragedy happened just after the woman jumped into the water as people saw what was right above her head – and now she’s dead.
Chelsey Russell, a 33-year-old mother from Lakewood, Colorado, was with her family aboard a houseboat on Lake Powell when tragedy struck. As it turns out, the woman’s 2-year-old son went overboard, prompting the mother to go in after her child.
Although neither of the two was wearing life jackets, Chelsey was able to make her way out to her son, but the boat took a short while to come to a stop. Meanwhile, others on the boat managed to hop onto a smaller boat from the houseboat in a desperate attempt to save the two.

Like a good mother, Chelsey did everything in her power to keep her child afloat, which eventually came to the point of her simply holding him above water as she went under. As the others on the boat made their way to the duo, they grabbed the boy – who was hovering above his mother’s head at that point – but that’s when tragedy struck.
Chelsey had exhausted herself, trying to keep her son afloat, and she slipped under the water as soon as the others grabbed her boy. Sadly, the hero mom had taken in water. Those aboard were able to rescue her from the water and immediately started to perform CPR.
Unfortunately, efforts to revive the woman failed, resulting in officials pronouncing her dead shortly thereafter. As one would imagine, the woman’s family is heartbroken with grief. Russell is listed as an associate at a law firm, Welborn, Sullivan, Meck & Tooley. They posted a statement mourning her loss:
“Chelsey was an amazing mother, an exceptional legal talent, an extraordinary athlete, a loyal and generous friend, and left us all better for knowing her. She is sorely missed.”
Reports indicate that Chelsey’s son is doing just fine and is expected to make a full recovery. Of course, that is only on account of what this brave mother was willing to go through in order to save the life of her child. There truly is no love like that a mother has for her children – and Chelsey proved that and will always be remembered as a true hero.
