Entire Police Force & Firefighters Take Over School After Finding Out What Teacher Did
By Dreamer

Law enforcement in Greenwood, Arkansas showed up to East Hills Middle School on Wednesday, with the backup of some firefighters in town, after hearing what one fifth grade teacher did. With an unprecedented approach, the public service officials took over the school to protect the students and left quite an impression in the process.
On the Friday before this take-over, paraprofessional Jennifer Nelms told the teacher she worked with in the classroom that she wasn’t feeling well and was going to leave early. Karen Benjamin was a long-time colleague of Nelms’ and explained that the last thing she heard from Nelms was, “I’m gonna go home; I’m gonna sleep. I’m gonna clean my house and I’ll see you Monday morning.” She didn’t think much of what the 32-year-old woman said before finding out what happened over the weekend that ended up with an army of police officers and firefighters on campus on Wednesday.

Nelms was always a positive person and big supporter of the police, always making sure her students recognized and respected their service in the community. So when she suddenly passed away over the weekend, the police and fire departments in her area wanted to return the respect that she always showed them and did so in an incredible way for those she left behind.
According to KFSM, Nelms was diagnosed with Lupus two years ago and suffered complications of that condition that took her life far too soon and without warning. Everyone she worked with wanted to be at her funeral this past Wednesday, but there weren’t enough substitutes to cover their positions. That’s when the service men and women stepped in and took over all the teaching roles for the day so that the faculty could attend this honorable woman’s funeral.
“Ms. Nelms was a supporter of the fire and police department,” Fire Chief Stewart Bryan said. “She’s been a supporter of us for many years. Now that the school’s in need, we wanted to help the school out. We wanted to make sure all the teachers were available to attend the funeral.”
In their teachers’ absence and feeling the loss of Nelms, who was loved by students and those who knew her, police and firefighters were there to make sure they had a good day. This is how public servants respond to every need — by being the solution to and thinking of ways to help before they’re asked. By their selfless efforts that went beyond the call of duty, these kids were taught an invaluable lesson of honor by their example and were protected from feeling the pain of loss on a hard day for that entire school.
