WARNING: Common Household Item Is Destroying Kid’s Skin

Medical professionals are discovering that a chemical found in baby wipes can be the cause of an itchy red rash that is often misdiagnosed as a more serious health problem.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, a study published on Monday suggests that the rash is caused when the affected child is allergic to a substance found in baby wipes. Previously, this particular rash had been diagnosed as eczema, impetigo, and psoriasis.
Dr. Mary Wu Chang, who is a professor of dermatology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and co-author of the previously mentioned medical study, has reported that she has treated six children for this particular rash in the past two years.
In the study, Chang references one 8-year-old girl who came to her with this rash around her mouth and butt. Although Chang treated the girl with antibiotics, the rash continued to come back.
Confused, Chang reviewed the young girl’s medical history and discovered that what she was having an allergic reaction to something.
As she thought about the rash more, Chang recalled a Belgian study that described similar symptoms in a patient who was suffering from an allergic reaction to methylisothiazolinone.
Methylisothiazolinone is a substance that is often found in baby wipes and lotion, so Chang recommended that the girl stop using baby wipes. After she quit using the wipes, the girl’s rash disappeared and never returned.
But this wasn’t the last time Chang would see this condition, and after it happened to five more of her patients, Chang decided that she needed to find a way to alert parents of the condition.
The doctor told NBC that parents need not throw away packets of wipes but just limit their use.
She told NBC: 'I have three kids, so I know how hard it is to do the changes, especially when you’re traveling. But maybe when you’re at home, it would be better to use a gentle cleanser and water. That way you minimize exposure.'
