Police Officer Is Horrified When He Sees What A Little Boy Is Trying To Sell Outside CVS

At a CVS store in Franklin, Ohio, customers became concerned when they saw a 7-year-old sitting alone and trying to sell something specific outside the business, so they called the police. When an officer arrived, he was shocked at what he saw, but it got worse when he followed the boy back to a horrid scene at his house.

Officer Steve Dunham responded to the call. Although he had prior notice about what the child was peddling, he wasn’t prepared for what else he would soon find out. When he got to the store on the busy street corner, he found the child approaching customers with a desperate plea.

WLWT reports that the unnamed child was trying to get someone to buy his stuffed animal so he could get a little money to buy food. When Dunham began talking to him about it, he learned that he hadn’t eaten in days and walked to the store with this plan in mind as his only option. “It broke my heart,” Dunham said.

He took the boy to Subway for dinner on him before returning to the police station with him to ensure his safety. The cop prayed with the hungry child before their meal and provided him “comfort and safety that he didn’t have at home,” Police Chief Russ Whitman told the news station.

Dunham discovered that the boy was living in squalor with his parents, Tammy and Michael Bethel, and four brothers, ages 11, 12, 15, and 17. The family’s house was full of garbage, cat urine, and liquor bottles. Rotten food was the only thing available to eat. The Bethels were both arrested and charged with 10 counts of child endangerment, and the kids were rescued from the filth and placed with family members.

Had it not been for this cop going above and beyond the call of duty, this could have ended much worse. He didn’t just give this little boy a meal, he gave him some hope after feeling that he had been abandoned in life as the forgotten youngest one in this deplorable situation. This single act of love could possibly change the course of this kid’s life, who will see cops as caring people, not the villains people in the ‘hood claim they are.
