Fed Up Coffee Shop Puts Up ‘Offensive’ Sign, Gets More Than They Expected

A Virginia coffee shop owner is fed up with what he’s seen lately and put out a brutally honest sign in front of his shop that reflects exactly how he feels about certain people, without caring who would be offended by it. Not thinking much of it other than to get something off his chest, sales soared. Someone snapped a photo of the sign, and it went viral.
Austin Simms says he wasn’t looking to get famous when he wrote what he thought was funny on a sandwich board sign in front of his cafe, CUPS Coffee & Tea in Roanoke, but that’s exactly what happened just hours after putting it out on the sidewalk. Annoyed with an increasing issue in society, Simms decided it was time to address it, by charging certain disrespectful people more and discounting those who were raised right.
“I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter,” Simms said, according to WDBJ. The shop’s sign rewards those who didn’t forget basic manners while punishing people who don’t seem to think it’s important.

The viral sign says:
“One small coffee” — $5.00,
“One small coffee, please” — $3.00
“Hello, I’d like one small coffee please” — $1.75.
Simms told the news station that he posted the sign on Sunday and by Wednesday multiple cameramen from various news outlets were at his door, praising him for his sign and wanting to broadcast it. While this may seem silly over the use of “hello” and “please,” it proves the desperate need to bring politeness back into our society that lost it long ago, along with basic face-to-face communication skills and manners.
