Dad's Frantic When He Sees What Son’s Toy Fishing Pole Pulled Out Of Water
By Timfly

A Colorado dad took his little boy for some quiet father/son fishing time at a suburban reservoir. As they sat on their little fishing boat, the 4-year-old put his plastic Spiderman fishing pole in the water. Moments later, his father was frantic as he saw what his son pulled out of the water and onto the boat.

Colin Evans was at Cherry Creek State Park in the Denver suburb of Aurora, where many families go to enjoy some local lake time. With the busyness of the recent holiday having somewhat subsided at the recreational area, Evans thought it was a good time to relax with his little boy, Tristan, and teach him how to fish. Ultimately, it was the toddler who taught his father a lesson that he’ll never forget.
Documenting one of their first fishing trips together, the dad had his cellphone recording when little Tristan can be heard saying, “Dad, I think I’ve got one!” Colin said he didn’t really pay much attention to the boy’s claim, considering that he was just playing with a toy pole that the dad thought wasn’t possible of catching anything that wasn’t imaginary. Tristan persisted, and eventually, the father went to help him with his pole when he felt it “go down hard.”
“At first, I ignored him thinking he was hooked in the rocks,” Colin told Colorado Outdoors Magazine. He explained that after feeling how heavy the toy rod was, he realized it wasn’t the rocks and thought it had perhaps caught a big fish instead.

“Big” was an understatement since what Tristan’s little toy hooked was a huge 28-inch walleye. “I helped him hold the rod and told him to just keep reeling,” the proud dad explained to the magazine. “As the fish got closer, I could tell it was one heck of a walleye. As soon as I had a chance, I netted it and the fish was in the boat,” he said.
The boy’s beaming face with his big catch of the day, which beat anything his dad reeled in, speaks volumes to how memorable this afternoon was for him. Bravo to this father for taking his son out for quality time, enjoying the simple things in life that don’t require anything but a dad’s undivided attention and a couple fishing poles. It didn’t start out as much, but it ended in a memory that will last a lifetime.
