Driver Passes Teen On Rural Road, Is Perplexed To See What Is Behind Him

A driver heading down a lonely road saw a teen in the distance coming toward him on foot. As the motorist approached, the boy sped up into a full sprint when the witness noticed a chain around his waist, along with what was at the other end of it, dragging behind him. That’s when he hit the brakes and got out.
The driver, who was not named, hadn’t seen anyone on this particular back road for miles, so when he saw the boy ahead of him, he was caught off guard. Struggling with every step he took, the teen kept on going, despite the weight of what he was pulling.
Wrapped around the skinny kid’s torso was a heavy chain with two huge tires attached to it. The boy was wearing dirty sweats and a tattered scarf around his neck, although it was a warm day. His shoes were worn down as he was running along this long stretch of road. There’s no telling how far he’d come, but by the look of him, it had to have been a good distance. The driver was confused, not knowing what he was doing alone, so he stopped to ask and was left with a lesson that moved him.

With the teen’s permission, the floored passerby shared a picture he took in a post on Love What Matters, showing how the driver found the boy. Right before taking the snapshot, he learned that the boy desperately wanted to make his high school’s football team, but he didn’t have a chance. His family is very poor, and while all of the other hopefuls were spending summer at various sports camps for conditioning to be the best players, this kid couldn’t afford those opportunities.
Determined to accomplish his teen dream, he created his own “camp” with what he had around the house that he could use to push himself to the physical limit and prove himself as the strong competitor that he knows he is inside. Despite his frail and filthy exterior, this lion-hearted boy believes he’s a champion, and by his own efforts seen on that less traveled road that day, he showed a stranger what real dedication looks like.
This boy has nothing but a dream and is not letting anything stop him from success. Many other kids feel entitled, expecting to get whatever they want, but this kid shows that greatness isn’t something that’s handed out for free — it’s earned by working for it. For now his peers may seem to have the upper hand, but money can’t buy this kind of tenacity and grit that he has. I am certain, one day, this kid on the curb, pulling two tires that weigh more than he does, will be the next great NFL player.
