Sonja and Eddie Taylor never expected to be forced into labor just shy of 22 weeks, but they did, and almost lost their baby girl.
In her 4th month of pregnancy, Sonja experienced an inflammation in her uterus that forced doctors into inducing labor.
Thinking quickly, Sonja lied and told doctors that her pregnancy was 24 weeks along, which made them induce labor and try to save the baby, versus an abortion because she was just 21 weeks along.
Despite the odds, Amelia survived the first hour, which is crucial for a premature baby.
Amelia set the world record for a surviving premature birth age. A nurse said “We simply couldn’t believe it. Amillia tried to scream after she was born. And that just after 21 weeks and six days.”
After two months in the NICU, Amelia was finally able to be held by her mother for the first time.
Amelia put on weight and looks to be the size of a normal, healthy baby, and Sonja has adopted a 16 year old to add to the family.
