Attorney saves baby trapped in a wrecked car during a rainstorm: "Yay for Hay!"

When Trinity County Attorney Colton Hay discovered a flipped car that was part of a car accident, he sprung into action and managed to rescue a baby trapped inside it. The wreck unfolded last month on May 25 at SH 94 West of Groveton, according to Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace. Hay stated that the vehicle was traveling very fast and "recklessly" as it passed other vehicles while driving in a no-passing zone. As reported to ABC13, the terrible weather was also a contributing factor in the accident. Suddenly, the car hydroplaned and flipped before landing into a ditch right before Hay's eyes.

Describing the devastating incident on Facebook, Wallace wrote, "The car came to a stop upside down in about a foot of water with oil and other fluids leaking from the car." County Attorney Hay, who recently became a father himself, rushed to aid the crash victim when he noticed a child inside the vehicle. He noticed that the child was sitting in a car seat that was not strapped to the car. Using a sledgehammer he had in his truck, Hay smashed the car window to rescue the baby. Soon he climbed into the car and managed to get the baby out with the help of other good Samaritans.

"Colton, being a recent 1st-time father, then busted the window with the help of passersby and climbed into the car to get the baby out," revealed the Facebook post. "The child was in a car seat, but the car seat was not strapped into the vehicle, which created a very unsafe situation for the child," it noted. The child, who sustained injuries, was immediately transported to a hospital for treatment. That being said, Wallace revealed that the baby did not have any life-threatening wounds. Meanwhile, the driver of the car was apprehended by the Texas Department of Public Safety trooper for driving with a valid license (DWLI) and a previous conviction, according to Fox 51. Authorities plan on charging the accused on more counts.

As for Hay, he is now being hailed for his heroic efforts by Facebook users, who are also condemning the driver for their careless actions. "Wow! God had him equipped and perfectly placed for exactly where he needed to be for this precious child. I hope the driver will learn a valuable lesson of life and responsibility as they have been given yet another chance to live responsibly. Thank you Colton Hay for stepping up and out yet again for our community," wrote user Glenda Matheny Hyde. Another, Facebook user Tamela Bonds Black shared, "Yay for Hay! But what a horrible way to behave anytime but especially with a child in the car. I hope this person is prosecuted to the full extent of the law!" A third, user David Pegoda, chimed in, "God Bless this young man for having enough courage to save this child from harms way, some attorneys wouldn't get their clothes dirty to do what this young man did."
