A Homeless teen overcomes the odds and graduates high school as valedictorian

Teenager Martin Folsom certainly knows a thing or two about overcoming hardship and overcoming the odds.
According to Duval County Schools, Folsom spent a good amount of his childhood homeless and living out of shelters with his mother. Do you think he allowed that to impact his ambitions and dreams in school?
Not at all.
In fact, Martin became class president from his freshman year through to his senior year – he’s now set to graduate at the top of his class as valedictorian.

Folsom explained: “It’s been a rocky road, a lot of hardships. But seeing myself now about to graduate, about to go to college – it feels good knowing all the stuff I’ve done was worth it.”
Folsom, a senior at A. Philip Randolph Career Academies, is now planning to study accounting at Valdosta State.

He was set to walk across the stage last week for graduation, but sadly that was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“As far as I know I’m the first person in my family to actually get a college degree,” Folsom said.
