Groups Of Women Are Refusing To Have Children Due To Climate Change

The vast majority of scientists across all disciplines agree – human beings are having a negative effect on the Earth’s climate. Because sea levels are rising, seasons are changing, and storms are growing more violent and destructive, it is only a matter of time before things get out of control and wreak untold havoc on the United States and other parts of the world.

That’s why young women are making a stand. Lead by 25-year-old Alice Brown and 32-year-old Blythe Pepino, young women are deciding not to have babies as a way to fight back against climate change. Not only are women afraid that their children might not have a clean and safe world to live in, but they also read the 2018 report that climate change will affect people much sooner than previously expected.

The two women from Britain are leading a “Birth Strike” to raise more awareness around climate change and to do something about it. They’re worried that the planet might become uninhabitable in only a short period of time and decided to found Birth Strike and recruit other women into the political movement.

During an interview on This Morning in the United Kingdom, Peino and Brown spoke to the hosts about how they believe that people need to take climate change much more seriously and start doing what they can to slow it down.

“It’s so hard because making a decision like this goes against everything you set out to do in life,” Alice said. She always wanted a family, so starting Birth Strike was a personal sacrifice for her, but one she believes makes sense because the Earth is in danger. Although she is in a long-term relationship, her partner accepts her decision not to start a family.

Blythe on the other hand is having a harder time with it. Her partner wants to start a family and is now “only coming to terms” with her difficult decision to abstain from starting a family.

Although both women and their 90 followers have vowed never to have children, viewers of the program don’t believe they’ll stick with it for the rest of their lives.

However, the women admitted that if there is a “deeper level” of commitment to curbing climate change “across the board,” they may reconsider their vow.

“Last year I became really aware of the national collapse of our environment,” she said. “I had just come to the point with my partner where we were discussing having a family.”

But she knew she could not have a family after she read the devastating results of the report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which predicted the results of the global warming were going to be much more devastating than previously imagined.

“The concern for all the birth strikers who joined our little group is that there will not be a future for their children.”

Although the Birth Strike group may seem extreme, it is really a sign that climate change is already affecting the younger generation and spreading fear that the world might not be here for the grandchildren of today.
