I Refuse To Use My Washing Machine Again After Soaking My Clothes This Way

If you’ve ever gotten a stain on pillowcases or bedsheets, you might not have to throw them away. A trick called “strip washing” might be strong enough to save them for a few more uses yet. With just three ingredients, this powerful cleaning method can completely change the way you wash your clothes and linens. After the before and after images were shared online, people across the world have expressed their desire to give the method a shot next time they have stained fabrics.
One mother started the trend when she posted the images on her Facebook page. The before and after photos are so influential, she has gotten a lot of attention from other viewers.

“I’m in the middle of strip soaking my ‘clean’ bed sheets to say I’m repulsed by the color of the water is an understatement,” she wrote.
If you don’t believe her, take a closer look at these images. The sheets that she put into the strip cleanse solution had supposedly been “cleaned” in her laundry machine. But after trying this amazing three-ingredient mixture, she might never go back to the washing machine again for such items.
So what goes into the “strip washing” solution? According to this DIY mom, you’ll need Borax (sodium borate) and soda crystals, which are then dissolved in water. Top it off with some ordinary laundry detergent powder, and you’re good to go.

The images show the black-brown water left behind after this mother “strip washed” her bed linens. To think that all that gunk is in the stuff we rest on every night is enough to inspire you to give this method a try.
Fans agree that “strip washing” takes fabrics back to their “factory settings.” In other words, you can make your fabrics look brand new if you put them through the wringer in this intense, three-ingredient washing solution.
You can use either your bathtub or a large bucket for strip washing. First, add ¼ cup of Borax and the ¼ cup of soda crystals. Next plop in ½ cup of laundry detergent powder. Then start filling the tub up while mixing the ingredients with a utensil until they are dissolved. The same technique is used to dissolve the strip washing solution in a large bucket. For a smaller bucket, use two teaspoons of Borax and soda crystals and four teaspoons of laundry powder.

When the mixture is ready, put your dirty fabric in there to soak.
“Put in the hottest water you can, mix it up and leave for up to four hours,” the instructions say.
After letting them soak for a long time, run the fabrics through your laundry machine then let it hang dry.

“It’s not something that should be done for the sake of it, and it has the potential to wear out certain fabrics,” a woman in the group wrote. “On everyday fabrics, it has the potential to remove heavy stains, residual bacteria, and dye. When stripping fabrics that contain a dye, seven times out of 10, there will be dye run, depending on the fabric and how it was dyed. When clothes are dyed they go through a quick process that includes a clean before sending them out to be dried and packed for the consumer… a strip wash will remove residual dye that was never removed in the initial process.”
