When a store employee goes above and beyond to make your shopping experience a good one, it’s something that you tend to remember. In fact, you may even seek out that same person the next time you visit the store. That’s what good customer service is all about! Sometimes though, a manager can do something that affects your decision to visit the store in the future.

April Jones Rouse was shopping at her local Sam’s Club when she witnessed a sight she’d never forget involving her son. The cashier was having fun playing with April’s 6-year-old son, Carter. However, when the manager noticed the loud horseplay happening at the front of his store, he decided to step in.

The North Carolina mom was so surprised by what happened next, she took to social media to make sure that everyone knew what this man did to her little boy!

April’s son Carter has Down Syndrome, which is something she is not ashamed of in the least. Carter may have a few special needs, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a regular kid where it counts. For example, most young children love to play, and sometimes they don’t even care where they’re at when the mood strikes. Whether it’s in the car, at the playground, or inside a grocery store, playtime means playtime!

In this case, Carter felt the need to goof around while they were shopping at Sam’s Club. And that’s totally forgivable, since even grown men have been known to turn into googly-eyed little boys the moment they step into a large warehouse full of bargains!

Although Carter had a blast helping mom shop, April was eager to check out and get back home. She was more than thankful when she she spotted a friendly cashier. The woman seemed like she was willing to be patient with a 6-year-old boy that came equipped with tons of energy!

“We see this cashier standing in the aisle and she smiled. So when we’re ready to check out we go to her.”

Cashier Jalessa Waddell noticed how Carter’s eyes lit up with excitement every time she scanned something with her handheld scanner. So, she decided to let the adorable boy come around to her side of the counter and ring up the rest of the items!

“This sweet cashier at Sams Club in Wilmington took time with our boy today & let him scan every single item we had! Then this happened.”

The cashier was so sweet to her son, but when the manager showed up she never expected this.

Store manager Mike Russo saw how much fun Carter was having, and decided to plan something extra special for the boy. He took Carter to his office upstairs and made him an honorary employee! Carter was outfitted with an official Sam’s Club blue vest uniform, and Mike even made a name tag for him to wear, too.

“Mike, the store manager took Carter upstairs to the office made him a badge & gave him a vest. Made Carters day & ours too!”

This must have been more fun than learning to be a Boy Scout. Anyone can learn to strike a match, but not everyone can point a “ray gun” and catch an elusive barcode!

April definitely appreciated everything that the Sam’s Club employees did for her and Carter that day. Her way of showing gratitude meant telling social media about their wonderful experience. Yet, Carter took it a step further and decided to actually express his thanks in a very “cheeky” way. The happy boy planted a sweet kiss right on the side of Mike’s cheek! Awww!

Some people like to save movie ticket stubs to remember good times spent with friends. That’s probably what the Sam’s Club receipt meant to Carter, and it doesn’t look like he is going to let go of his precious “ticket” anytime soon!

Carter is such a beautiful ray of sunshine! His parents say that this cutie tends to attract attention wherever he goes. With his affectionate and sunny disposition, it’s easy to see why!
