Newborn Twin Wraps Her Arm Around Dying Sibling, Then A Miracle Occurs
By Timfly

Kyrie and Brielle Jackson were blessings to their parents who’d been eagerly awaiting the birth of their baby girls, but the twins arrived 12 weeks premature at Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in Wooster.

Each baby weighed a teeny tiny two pounds and although Kyrie gained weight after birth, Brielle didn’t do as well as her sister. In fact, three weeks after their birth, Brielle’s blood-oxygen levels were terrifyingly low when they placed her in the incubator. Her heart rate was dropping, her breathing was labored and her body temperature was falling.

Brielle’s condition was quickly deteriorating. It was frightening for her family and alarming to the nursing staff. Although the twins had spent the duration of the pregnancy sharing a womb, they were kept in separate incubators. But one neonatal intensive care unit nurse, Gayle Kasparian, defied the hospital’s rules of every baby must be in a separate incubator. She had a gut feeling that the two baby girls would be better off nestled together. She had heard about a new method being used in Europe to help NICU babies who were placed side-by-side to share one incubator.

At this point, the nurse had tried everything. She decided to give this method a try. Brielle was blue in the face and they didn’t know if she’d survive. After they were placed in the incubator together, twin sister Kyrie wrapper her arm around Brielle. People are calling what happened next a miracle. Watch this video about what’s now known as “the hug that helped change medicine.”
