Before Checking For Breast Cancer, Here’s A ‘Trick’ Docs Forget To Share
By Timfly

Doctors routinely advise women to check their breasts for lumps or abnormalities. However, before you partake in your monthly breast cancer check, there’s one trick you need to know that doctors forget to share, according to one breast cancer patient who’s now making others aware since it just might save their life.
Hayley Browning has always followed her doctor’s advice and routinely came to the office to get checked for lumps that could be a sign of cancer. In addition, she would do a monthly check of her own breasts inside the shower and in front of the mirror to ensure there was nothing alarming hidden within her body. Unfortunately, she would soon discover that she had breast cancer by accidentally learning about a “trick” her doctor never shared.
Although medical professionals often advise women to check themselves in the shower for breast cancer, Hayley learned the hard way that this isn’t always the best practice. In fact, without randomly learning about a trick herself, her cancer may have gone undiagnosed for much longer, regardless of her monthly breast checks. She has since shared her life-saving tip on Facebook to help other women, and it’s as simple as checking for lumps while lying down.

“I could only feel the lump whilst lying down and it completely disappeared standing up,” Hayley explained, according to CBS. “Most websites tell you to check for lumps in the shower but if I had followed this advice, the lump may have grown too large to be treatable. Not even the surgeon could feel my lump when I was standing up.”
Her post, sharing her life-saving advice, has since gone viral with women across the world thanking her for daring to tell her story. In fact, some women even shared their body’s own warning signs to help other women detect cancer early. Of course, Hayley was overwhelmed with the response and simply hopes that her post will inspire all women to start checking for any abnormalities in the shower, in front of a mirror, and lying down.

“As I think about my long journey ahead and the chemotherapy I will undertake, I want to reach as many people with this message and help find more,” she explained.
Self-exams are important for early detection. The better-informed everyone (men included) are on what to feel for – the greater the chance you or someone you love’s cancer will be diagnosed early. Although no one wants to learn that they have cancer, it’s better to catch it in its earliest stages. The faster we spread this trick around to the ones we love, the more lives that could be saved.
