Woman Sees Cop Standing In Pouring Rain, Floored By What He’s Holding
By Timfly

While passing through Hopewell, Virginia, a woman saw a cop on the side of the road in the pouring rain. She immediately hit the brakes when she noticed what he was holding, along with what was next to him, and she was floored by the scene that she won’t soon be able to forget.
Despite being completely caught off guard by the sight, the first thing Deana McNew thought to do was snap a picture so she could let his department know what one of their officers was doing on the job. Later identified as Detective Barchanowicz, the cop had no clue Deanna was there when she pulled off on a side street and snapped the shot from behind him.

Hopewell Detective Barchanowicz
The situation began when the cop was still in his patrol car and passed by a bus stop, when he suddenly stopped. Confused by what the quick reaction was about, thinking perhaps he was called to a crime, she saw him digging around in his car before climbing out. Seconds later, Barchanowicz emerged and ran to a man, who was minding his own business as he waited for the bus.
Deana noticed that the citizen was a disabled double amputee, sitting alone in his wheelchair with no shelter from the pouring rain while he waited on public transportation to arrive. The sight of the struggle wasn’t missed by the cop, who couldn’t pass this man by without helping. Barchanowicz stopped everything he was doing to stand by this man and hold an umbrella over him until the bus came.

“This was on Oaklawn Blvd at the corner of Wilmington Street,” McNew told WWBT. “God bless this officer who helped a double amputee in this awful rain.”
The department caught wind of their selfless detective and responded with a statement of their own. “We the members of the Hopewell Police Department, recognize our profound duty to uphold the public trust,” they wrote in a social media post, along with the photo on May 17, praising the character of this excellent officer. “We will consistently demonstrate loyalty, trust, respect, integrity, and honesty in all our endeavors. These values are the foundation upon which our professionalism is based.”
Barchanowicz didn’t go into policing just to bust bad guys and write tickets, he picked this profession because he has a heart for strangers and wants to serve them in any way he can. It didn’t take his weapon to defend this citizen in a bad situation, all it took was an umbrella and a small amount of his time to let this disabled man know that nobody should have to sit in the rain alone.
