Five Days After Mother Is Killed, Orphaned Kids Hit With More Bad News

It’s been said that “bad things happen in threes.” If that’s the case, four California children better brace themselves for the final blow. The kids are left orphaned, wondering who will care for them and tuck them in each night, after losing both parents in separate horrific incidents within days of each other.
Tragedy for the four, ages 1 to 14-years-old, began on July 6, while on vacation with their mother, 34-year-old Annalisa Santana. The relationship between the children’s parents had ended some time before, and their dad, Adrian Cardona, stayed behind in their Southern California town, while the kids traveled with their mother and her fiance to visit family in Washington state.

The adventure-seeking group decided to explore the state’s popular Big Four Ice Caves, despite the warning of unstable ice. While deep inside, a sizable piece of ice and rock broke free above them, landing right on top Santana, her fiance, and one of her youngest sons. The mother was killed instantly. Her fiance and son were injured, but they are expected to make a full recovery, according to Q13 Fox.

But trouble for the family mourning over their mother’s death was far from over. Five days later, tragedy would strike again, this time doubling down on sadness since their 35-year-old father’s death was caused by a senseless act from a thug.
Cardona was at Lulu’s Hideout bar in San Bernardino, California Sunday evening, when he got into an argument with a fellow patron. Bar staff asked Cardona to leave, which he did, but as he was standing by his car about to get in and take off, a thug shot him to death, right there in the parking lot.

The killer got away, and at the time of this report still remains at large. Whatever his scuffle with Cardona was about was apparently worth leaving four children — two boys, 1 and 8, and two daughters 12 and 14 — without either of their parents. It hadn’t even been one full week since their mom’s fatal accident, and it’s unknown if she had even been buried by the time the kids’ dad was killed.
The thug didn’t just get away with killing a man, he got away with robbing four kids of their childhood, hitting them with a harsh reality from which they will never fully recover. Several bad decisions happened here that left them orphaned, beginning with the mother taking a risky adventure and ending with the father getting in a bar fight with a violent thug.
None of that matters more than the fact that these children have a long road to recovery, which will hopefully be padded with a lot of love from relatives who will take over in raising them.
