Couple Saves Injured Squirrel, Now It Lives In Their Christmas Tree
By Dreamer

Redditor carefree_dude’s posted this amazing story. He and his wife found an injured squirrel on the side of the road. It was twitching, most likely hit by a car, and suffered a major head trauma and couldn’t do anything. The couple saved the squirrel from certain death on the road and reached out to a wildlife rehabilitator.
The squirrel who they named Mitten, was on medicine for 6 days before he was able to hold food, though he still needed help drinking and couldn’t walk very well.
“We are still caring for him, though he will likely never be able to be released again, wrote the redditor. “He may not be able to live a wild life, but if he continues to recover, we can help him live a good life.”
Mitten is the second squirrel the family has saved: “We would love to run a wildlife rehabilitation center some day. We are building a 5ft by 3ft by 8ft enclosure for him, which I hope to put a small living tree in.” For now, Mitten loves hanging out in the family’s Christmas tree.

“He couldn’t eat, drink, [or] walk. We were eventually able to get him to drink via a syringe”

“He often keeps his head to the side”

The family may never be able to release him back into the wild, so now he’s living in their Christmas tree!
