Cop Spots Homeless Woman On Quiet Road, Shocked By What’s At Her Feet

It was a day like any other for an Oklahoma police officer, that is until he saw a homeless woman walking down a quiet road. Pulling over to make sure that everything was alright, the cop was left utterly shocked after seeing what was at her feet – and that’s when he sprang into action.
Tulsa County Sheriff’s Officer Brandon Hendrix spotted a lone woman walking down a road on a rather hot day. According to the man, it was about 87 degrees outside, so when he saw a homeless woman walking down all by herself, he figured it would be a good idea to make sure everything was alright.
However, the situation would take a turn as soon as the officer saw what was at the woman’s feet – and it changed everything. In fact, you probably would have felt the same to look down and see that the homeless woman was actually barefoot and walking on the extremely hot blacktop.
“That looks pretty uncomfortable,” he remembers thinking. After following her for a bit, Hendrix eventually made a remark about the woman not having any shoes on. It was at that time that he learned she had gotten into a fight with another woman and lost her only pair during the scuffle.
“Do you mind if I take you and buy you some new ones?” he asked her. Although she was hesitant at first, she agreed after another officer joined the two and she felt a bit more comfortable. Officer Brandon took the woman to a local Walmart, since that was the only place open at the time, and they headed to the shoe department.

According to Hendrix, he tried to get the woman to open up but was only able to get a few things out of her. She’d become addicted to drugs, fallen on hard times, and even had children somewhere. “She said she was trying to get her life back on track,” he further recalled.
Fortunately, the officer had the perfect response, saying that having shoes to walk that track sure couldn’t hurt. After picking out a pair of brand new sneakers and some socks, the two headed to the cash register, where Hendrix swiped his card.
The two then headed back to the homeless congregate where the woman asked to be dropped off a few blocks away to ensure she wasn’t seen with police. After hearing that she would be deemed a “snitch,” Hendrix agreed and pulled over.
Since the incident, a picture of Hendrix and the woman at the Walmart checkout line has gone viral – and it’s clear why. However, the kind-hearted officer says he doesn’t understand all the attention he’s getting. “I would hope that someone would do the same for someone in my family who needed something,” he said. “It’s not like it’s a big deal. It’s just a pair of shoes.”
I think it’s safe to say that this world could use a few more people in it like Hendrix. With all the flack that police officers are getting these days, this is just the kind of news that needs to go viral.
