Hours After Getting a Warning For Speeding, This Woman Got an Unexpected Knock on Her Door

A Massachusetts woman was recently pulled over for speeding, and while she was let off with a simple warning, her interaction with the police officer ended up significantly affecting her day later on.
According to WBZ, Winchester resident Robin Sutherland was pulled over by a Somerville police officer for doing 40 mph in a 30 mph zone.
While Sutherland was waiting for the officer to write her a ticket, she began crying, though not because of the potential citation for a traffic violation.
Instead, Sutherland was crying because she had just learned that her 90-year-old mother was being placed into hospice care, where so many families meet the end. She knew her mother was near death.
“I just realized when we lose my mother I’m the older generation now and it just hit me,” Sutherland reportedly told Officer Ashley Catatao, when asked why she was crying.
Catatao tried to calm Sutherland down and ultimately sent her on her way with a mere warning about her speeding, but the interaction didn’t end there.

Later that evening, Sutherland heard a knock at the door of her home, which turned out to be a courier dropping off a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
The card on the bouquet read, “I’m very sorry about your mother. I hope you find comfort in knowing she lived a long life and will continue to live on in your heart and in your memories.”
It was signed, “Officer who pulled you over this morning,” and had been sent by Catatao.
“We do things like this all the time. It just doesn’t get much notice in the press. I was just doing what I know most people would have done anyways. It just seemed so natural to me,” Catatao said news a press conference, flanked by the town’s mayor and chief of police.
Sutherland was extremely grateful for the officer’s gesture, saying, “For her to go out of her way for someone who was having kind of a tough day, it was just amazing.”
This is a great story, and one that should be spread far and wide to show that, contrary to rhetoric from certain advocacy groups and their allies in the media, most police officers are regular people who care for the civilians in the communities they serve.
