McDonald’s Won’t Give Homeless Woman Sip of Water, Then This Guy Walks Up

A young man's compassion toward a homeless woman has gone viral after he wrote a Facebook post describing an experience he had at McDonald's.
Jonathon Pengelly of Cardiff, Wales, explained that he wound up at the fast food chain after a night out with friends.
He was waiting in line when a homeless woman ahead of him asked for a cup of hot water.
"The member of staff told her no," Pengelly wrote. "I don't know what was going through their mind but a lady, clearly homeless[,] was asking for a basic human right; and for a multi billion dollar company, for them to say no is disgusting!"
Pengelly decided to take action. He approached the woman, whose name is Polly, and offered to buy her whatever she wanted.
"She asked for a single cheese burger and that was it," he wrote. "We bought as much as we could carry so I knew she wasn't going to be hungry..."
"...When I got to speak to them I was genuinely shocked at their story and how educated they were!" his post continued. "So full of life and enthusiasm and they literally have nothing!"
But Pengelly wasn't content merely to buy the woman and her friend food.
"I invited Polly and her mate back to my house and we all cooked enough food to feed them and their friends for the next few nights," he explained. "We boxed them up and packed them in their bags."
He also allowed them to take showers and brush their teeth before sending them away with blankets and pillows.
"It costs nothing to be kind, and I genuinely hope people share this to raise awareness of homelessness throughout the UK!" he wrote.
Pengelly got his wish: his Facebook post has been shared more than 35,000 times since Oct. 1.
A McDonald's spokesperson said the company does not systematically refuse service to homeless people, according to the Daily Mirror.
"There is no McDonald's policy to ban homeless people from our stores and the vast majority of such requests are granted by our restaurant teams," the spokesperson said, adding that some locations in Cardiff "have had to ban a number of individuals due to illegal and anti-social behavior."
However, the spokesperson stressed that McDonald's employees provide water and other necessities to homeless people every day.
